Compact Disc – Most Popular Music Storage Medium

Posted under: Pop Music, Rock Music

Compact discs have become the most popular Music storage medium recently. Popularly known for its short name ‘CD’, it has many benefits of quality, safety, capacity and cost.

It is far superior than previous storage mediums like tape cassettes and records. Record was the early storage mediums. It was replaced by tapes. Tape cassettes enjoyed popularity for many years. Now, compact discs have completely replaced tape cassettes.

Quality of music stored on a CD is far more superior to that of a cassette. It has excellent audio output. It gives great purity of sound. Tunes and voice are very distinct. Makes listening of song and tunes more enjoyable. This is one of the main reason of its popularity among the listeners.

It offers better safety than that of tape cassettes. Tapes were prone to easy damage and breakage. Formation of fungus due to non use was also the minus point. A CD is much sturdier. It is usually damage proof and scratch proof in normal usage. Very rough use can only cause damage to a compact disc. It is also fungus proof. Hence, it can be stored for very long periods.

It has a great capacity for storage. A compact disc can typically store 700 mega bytes of music. That is a huge capacity considering storage in mp3 file format. Mp3 format reduces the file size to nearly 15 per cent than its previous file formats. A song of 50 mega bytes can be reduced to 5 or 6 mega bytes in mp3 format keeping the sound quality intact. Capacity of a CD is one of its chief advantages.

A CD is very cost effective also. Mass production reduces the cost to a great extent. Secondly, competition among its manufacturers also helps in reducing the cost. Now, it has become highly affordable to the extent that it can be almost termed as cheap.

Learn Blues Guitar Tablature

Posted under: Rock Music

Tabs are much like sheet music but they are for those who can not read notes. Can also be used to easily learn. Joining guitar forums can also boost your knowledge about tabs and all. E-books and audio CD on all tabs and playing styles are also available for a minimal fee. Tabs can be downloaded anytime. Tabs are also easy to understand because the notations are clear. If you are new to lessons, do not be confused about tabs and tablature. You can have access to thousands of tabs online and offline. The step-by-step blues tutorials will take you along the 12 chord progression, via audio examples, blues tablature, MP3 jam tracks, detailed instructions, and video demonstrations. Any beginner will benefit from learning to read chords tablature or tab. If you are new to lessons, do not be confused about tabs and tablature. Assuming you already have a background on tablature and know the basic chords, you will be introduced to blues chords, such as the blues movable barre chords.

Free chords are illustrated in the customary musical notation and tablature, also known as tabs. Learning to read the diagrams and tablature will guarantee your enjoyment of free chords, which you can download anytime from online sites. For a comprehensive resource and a variety of tips, Pro Tips offers a one time downloadable program that covers basic lessons such as reading tablature and playing songs. Three new Teach Yourself Visually books show you in pictures the in and out of knitting, crocheting. “Teach Yourself Visually” gives you the help you need to read chord charts, tablature and lead sheets. I prefer this method because you can download individual songs with tablature one at a time as opposed to buying the whole songbook.

If you are not used to playing, your fingertips will be soft so the steel strings are likely to feel very uncomfortable, even painful at times. A individual can play the guitar well and in a lot of ways but is crucial that he or she is comfortable and enjoys what he or she is doing. If you aspire to be a proficient guitarist, buying one is not suitable for you would not only get you short changed but it might also disillusion you and dampens your enthusiasm. It includes cleaning and polishing the guitar regularly, changing the strings, storing it in its suitable place and moreover, most importantly, it is necessary to know how to tune properly. Therefore, not only the established player but also the beginners should get acquainted with every prospects of tuning. While restringing, either one will stab in the end of the left hand index finger of guitarists instantly.

However, bear in mind that used guitars do not come with a warranty and these may have unsuitable modifications. Get them from reputable dealers who can give you a warranty. Combined with actual music notation, tablature makes sight reading a breeze, and you can learn songs much more quickly then by trying to sight read music on its own. guitar tablature is a notation that looks somewhat like sheet music, but it is actually a six-line staff.

The Blues Guitar’s Influence On Popular Music

Posted under: Pop Music, Rock Music

Anybody interested in modern music sooner or later asks the question, “Where did it begin?” Well, if you leave blues music out, you will not have much of an answer. So let us look at where the blues came from, where it went and who it met on the way. We will also take a look at the “blues sound” and how it has its unique effect on our feelings.

The blues as a musical phenomenon began around 1911 when W.C. Handy published popular songs, notably “Memphis Blues” and “St Louis Blues”, which affected the hearts and souls of the black people. By the nineteen twenties the general population were beginning to hear this new music through its influence on jazz. Early blues singers like Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday sang with jazz bands while others played with “jug bands” accompanied by fiddle, kazoo and washboard.

Of course to people like W. C. Handy who were brought up singing in church, the piano was the natural instrumental accompaniment to their songs. But the guitar is portable and always was popular so it had to have a place in blues and jazz. Blues guitar players like twelve string guitarist Leadbelly and future electric guitar player B.B. King were making sure the guitar would be an integral part of the blues. Other blues guitarists made their living in smoky saloons playing slide guitar using a bottle neck or the blade of a knife to fret the notes.

After the Second World War young artists like Elvis Presley and Bill Haley were wrapping the blues in a new package called “rock’n'roll” and the players of the electric blues guitar like B.B. King were heralding the arrival of the lead guitar, soon to be a great attraction for both musicians and audiences. Throughout the evolution of the blues the guitar had always taken its turn for solos in jazz bands but now it competed with the singer for the attention of the audience.

Blues guitar can be played in any key that takes your fancy and comes in three basic forms: eight bars, for example “Heartbreak Hotel”, sixteen bars like “Saint James Infirmary” and twelve bars like “St. Louis Blues”. For some reason the twelve bar blues form is way more singer-friendly and popular with audiences than the other two, and it is the basis of many great songs outside the blues idiom.

If you go poking around the internet you will find that the blues scales are just your garden variety major and minor scales except that the third, fifth and seventh notes are played flat. However, you may be astonished to learn that blues players managed for centuries without knowing about European musical theory. They learnt to sing and play from their families and friends just as many of the young white blues players of the nineteen sixties learnt from imitating the artists they heard on records.

And this is where the blues takes another direction. After years of imitating their idols something odd happened to the white blues guitar players in Britain and the USA. They developed their own authentic, original styles. The older blues players even began using the new arrangements of classic songs and adopting some of the unbluesy musical innovations introduced by young white guitarists like Eric Clapton. So the beat goes on. A foreign culture influences American popular music and in turn gets fresh input from a new generation of guitar players from all over the world.

The Moody Blues Tickets for 2010 UK Tour

Posted under: Rock Music

The Moody Blues are an English band originally from Erdington in the city of Birmingham. Founding members Michael Pinder and Ray Thomas performed an initially rhythm and blues-based sound in Birmingham in 1964 along with Graeme Edge and others, and were later joined by John Lodge and Justin Hayward as they inspired and evolved the progressive rock style. Among their innovations was a fusion with classical music, most notably in their seminal 1967 album Days of Future Passed.

The band has had numerous hit albums in the UK, U.S., and worldwide. They remain active as of 2009. The Moody Blues have sold in excess of 50 million albums worldwide and have been awarded 14 platinum and gold discs.

The Moody Blues formed on 4 May 1964, in Erdington, Birmingham, England. Ray Thomas, John Lodge, and Michael Pinder had been members of El Riot & the Rebels, a regionally-popular band. They disbanded when Lodge, the youngest member, went to technical college and Pinder joined the army. The pair recruited guitarist/vocalist Denny Laine, band manager-turned-drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. The five appeared as the Moody Blues for the first time in Birmingham in 1964. The name developed from a planned sponsorship from the M&B Brewery and was also a subtle reference to the Duke Ellington song, “Mood Indigo”.

This band have alot of variation in band members. Many people joined The Moody Blues and many left, the current members in The Moody Blues strats from Justin Hayward at guitar & vocals, John Lodge at bass, guitar & vocals, Graeme Edge at drums & percussion with Norda Mullen at flute, guitar, percussion, harmonica & vocals, Paul Bliss at keyboards & guitar, Bernie Barlow at keyboards, percussion & vocals, Gordon Marshall at drums & percussion.

The Moody Blues are now announcing a tour to UK in 2010. This UK Tour will take them to 14 locations in the UK. Whether or not the band plan to tour outside the UK is unknown as yet. The Tour starts from 7th Sep, 2010 at the venue of Brighton Centre, Brighton, United Kingdom and ends at O2 Arena, London, United Kingdom on 25th Sep, 2010.
